The Harlem Business Alliance (HBA) is proud to announce the winners of its Fourth Annual Business Plan Competition.
Business plan submissions were reviewed by members of the Judging Committee and narrowed down to four finalists. On July 25, the finalists made their presentations to the Judging Committee and a winner was selected. The grand prize was awarded to Brenda and Aaron Beener of Seasoned Vegan.
Seasoned Vegan is a vegan food company that is planning to open up a full service restaurant in Harlem. Currently, the family sells every Tuesday at the Farmer’s Market on Plaza of the Harlem State Office Building. Ms. Beener’s food has been acclaimed from both vegan and meat eaters.
Regina L. Smith, HBA’s Executive Director said, “We are excited about supporting this Harlem mother/son team in establishing a destination vegan restaurant. By pulling together a team of professionals to assist them through the planning stage, we will increase their likelihood of success.”
The competition’s participants needed to meet the following requirements; be at least 18 years old and a legal resident or U.S. citizen; live in Upper Manhattan and have an interest in establishing a for-profit start up business in Harlem; or be an owner of an operating for-profit business located in Upper Manhattan with maximum annual gross revenues of $500,000.
This competition provides the grand prize winner with $5,000 and personal consultation sessions with Incubate NYC. IncubateNYC runs a program that transforms ideas into products. They train early stage entrepreneurs to use idea validation methodology within a peer to peer setting.
